To easily convert this dish into very Southern Brunswick Stew, one might add about: 1/2 of a 15 oz can of corn (drained), 1/2 of a 15 oz can of butter beans (drained), and a few ounces of cooked Chicken and Pork (cut or pulled into very small pieces).
