OK.. let me try to put this message across in a clear way…  I just read the headline:

Biomerica Purchases the Assets, Technology and Rights for New Celiac Disease Tests”

I have nothing against Capitalism.  Here, read all about it: Capitalism =

… on one hand…. but on the other hand, the idea that someone actually can and/or would actually wish to acquire the “Technology and Rights for the New Celiac Test” tells me something.  Clearly, a for-profit organization would not make such a deal unless they saw lots of money in it.

  And money is wonderful too!!!

But I then go to two questions:

  1. Will this now mean that it is easier or more difficult (both presently AND in the long run) for people in need to get tested for Celiac Disease?
  2. And furthermore, what if anything might this do to the quality and reliability of that particular test as it is manufactured primarily for the profit it generates, rather than for the humanity it facilitates?

So, I really hope I have not either offended or frightened anyone.  And I am confident that the potential for goodness to come out of this is there.  I just wish I had other relatable examples from the for-profit health care industry that I could propose as evidence.

  What do you think?
