Fascinating Concept! Healthcare Costs Going Down After Celiac Diagnosis?
There is a recent article on the ”Gluten Free Living” website, citing a report from the “Journal of Insurance Medicine”, published by the American Academy of Insurance Medicine. In this article, a researcher was quoted as stating,
“We now have evidence that the increased awareness and diagnosis of celiac disease would benefit not only the patients but would result in health care costs savings,” said Peter HR Green, M.D., Professor of Clinical Medicine and Director, Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University Medical Center.
These findings were based on a Cigna study usind patient data from 1999-2003. In the article, Dr. Green also offers additional insights about a need for more Celiac-related health care provider education and more wide use of screening methods.
The question that this leads me to is: How is sort of recomendation squared with the issue of preexisting condition limits on U.S. health insurance policies?
One could probably go on and on about this. But for now, I would like to hear what you think.
